MyBib's features are free, and since July 2026 a paid MyBib Plus ($24 a year) stores your work on its server. CitApp's core is free too, with Pro only for heavy use of the extension, the Docs add-on and Academic Shield. The difference that matters isn't price. It's what happens after the citation exists.

Since July 2026 it shows a prompt when it thinks you are making a mistake, such as wrong title casing or adding a citation twice.
Bringing in an existing reference list
Paste the list: each line is looked up by its DOI, link or ISBN, then by title in CrossRef and Libris. Nothing is added until you confirm it.

Verdict

For a single, one-off citation with no account and the widest possible style list, MyBib is genuinely hard to beat. For an essay where you want sources sorted by section, cited from inside the document, and checked against what you actually wrote, that is what CitApp adds.

Can I import my MyBib citations into CitApp?

Yes. Copy your reference list from MyBib and paste it into a CitApp project: each line is looked up by its link or DOI, or by title, and you confirm each match before it is added.
