Agreement to these terms

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of citapp.org and all related services (the "Services"), provided by CitApp ("we," "us," or "our").

We may update these Terms from time to time. We will notify you of changes by updating the "Last updated" date. Your continued use of the Services after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.

The Services are intended for users who are at least 13 years old. Persons under 13 are not permitted to use or register for the Services.

1. Our Services

CitApp is a web-based tool that helps students and researchers create citations, manage sources, and generate reference lists. The Services let you save URLs and DOIs, automatically fetch bibliographic metadata, organise sources into projects, collaborate with classmates, and export formatted citations in multiple styles.

You are responsible for verifying generated citations against your institution's requirements before submitting them in academic work. CitApp assists but does not replace your own judgement.

2. Intellectual property

Our intellectual property

We own or license all intellectual property rights in the Services, including source code, databases, functionality, software, designs, text, graphics, and logos (the "Content" and "Marks"). Our Content and Marks are protected by copyright, trademark, and other intellectual property laws.

Your license to use

Subject to these Terms, we grant you a non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to access and use the Services for your personal or academic purposes. No part of the Services may be copied, reproduced, distributed, sold, licensed, or otherwise exploited without our express prior written permission.

Your submissions

By sending us any feedback, suggestions, or other information about the Services ("Submissions"), you agree that we may use this Submission for any lawful purpose without acknowledgment or compensation.

Any breach of these intellectual property rights constitutes a material breach of these Terms and your right to use the Services will terminate immediately.

3. User representations

By using the Services, you represent and warrant that: (1) all registration information you submit is true, accurate, current, and complete; (2) you will maintain the accuracy of such information; (3) you have the legal capacity to comply with these Terms; (4) you will not access the Services through automated or non-human means; (5) you will not use the Services for any illegal or unauthorised purpose; and (6) your use of the Services will not violate any applicable law or regulation.

If you provide untrue, inaccurate, or incomplete information, we may suspend or terminate your account and refuse current or future use of the Services.

4. User registration

You must register to use the Services. You agree to keep your password confidential and are responsible for all use of your account and for any activity that occurs under your credentials. Notify us immediately if you suspect unauthorised access to your account.

5. Subscriptions

11. Governing law

These Terms are governed by and interpreted following the laws of Sweden. If you reside in the EU and are a consumer, you additionally possess the protection provided by obligatory provisions of the law in your country of residence. Both parties agree to submit to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Sweden.

12. Dispute resolution

To expedite resolution and control costs, the parties agree to first attempt to negotiate any dispute informally for at least thirty (30) days before initiating formal proceedings.

Any dispute shall be limited to the dispute between the parties individually. There is no right to bring a claim on a class-action basis or in a purported representative capacity.

Exceptions

The following disputes are not subject to informal negotiation requirements: (a) disputes concerning intellectual property rights; (b) disputes related to theft, piracy, invasion of privacy, or unauthorised use; and (c) any claim for injunctive relief.

13. Disclaimer

THE SERVICES ARE PROVIDED ON AN "AS-IS" AND "AS-AVAILABLE" BASIS. YOU AGREE THAT YOUR USE OF THE SERVICES WILL BE AT YOUR SOLE RISK. TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, WE DISCLAIM ALL WARRANTIES, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING THE IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. 14. Limitation of liability

IN NO EVENT WILL WE OR OUR DIRECTORS, EMPLOYEES, OR AGENTS BE LIABLE TO YOU OR ANY THIRD PARTY FOR ANY DIRECT, INDIRECT, CONSEQUENTIAL, EXEMPLARY, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, INCLUDING LOST DATA OR OTHER DAMAGES ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF THE SERVICES, EVEN IF WE HAVE BEEN ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES.

OUR LIABILITY TO YOU FOR ANY CAUSE WHATSOEVER WILL AT ALL TIMES BE LIMITED TO THE AMOUNT PAID, IF ANY, BY YOU TO US DURING THE SIX (6) MONTH PERIOD PRIOR TO ANY CAUSE OF ACTION ARISING.
